The United States has six Holy Days of Obligation. This little "passport" will help children to understand the importance of attending Mass on these days which are in addition to their obligation as Catholics to attend Mass every Sunday. Encourage your students to keep track of them for a year. Offer a sticker or stamp for each day that they fulfill their obligation (stars work great). Depending on when you start, the year may extend into the next school year. Invite your students to come back for their stamp - what a great opportunity for your new students to see your old ones carrying on what you are teaching, creating a sense of continuity. You may even want to offer some sort of small prize or recognition for a completed passport. This is something your kids may even remember when they are adults and may even feel a twinge of obligation when they consider skipping that All Saints Day Mass in the future, giving the nudge they need to put God first and go! Reminder: If January 1st, August 15th or November 1st falls on a Saturday or Monday, the precept to attend Mass is abrogated, celebrated on Sunday.
